Transfer Switches for Solar Systems

Transfer switch needs are different for solar versus backup generators.  Transfer switches that switch to solar backups do so immediately upon loss of the utility power. Switches designed for use with standby generators do not switch until the generator sends a control signal indicating the generator is up to speed.

SunnyCal offers transfer switch products that fill several different needs:

  • Simple transfer switches, that immediately switch to the solar input upon loss of utility power. Switches are SE rated, and include series disconnect breaker.

  • Instant switch modules that can be added to generator-style transfer switches to remove the need for communications with a generator. Kits are available for Generac and Cummins residential switches.

  • Battery controlled transfer switches, that normally operate with solar as the primary source, and switch to the utility input when the solar battery charge is too low.  Battery setting that causes the switch-over is user definable from 11V to 50V.
